Celebrating Over 35 years of Modern Western Square Dance |
The Fair Squares recently celebrated year 37 of our existence. When the club was started those 37 seemingly short years ago, the purpose was very simple. Make it fun for everyone and have 'em back often. We still dedicate ourselves to that philosophy and it's still working. We hope that this year, all of our many friends will continue to allow us to prove it. |
Even after 37 years, the Fair Squares still dance in the same Village Hall where it all started. An offshoot of the club in Gettysburg, the Fair Squares was formed with one square and a lot of hope. We have enjoyed the calling of Blacky Simmons, Jackie Slyke, and now, Al Groth. The club has never been as large as many clubs in the area, but we've made up for our lack of size with a reputation for consistently providing fun, food, and entertainment for an entire evening - not just for one night but for every night, all night, all year, every year. |
We've been extremely fortunate to be able to dance in the Village Hall in Fairfield for our entire existence. The hall was owned by one of our charter members but there was a wee problem. One of the first things the newly formed club had to do was install a brand new hardwood dance floor (missing in action since the hall had not been used in quite a while). The fact that we're now working on our second brand new hardwood floor is a testament to the consistent fun and entertainment of more than 35 years of dancing. A toast to our next 35 years. |

The Fair Squares is a Mainstream club that believes in the age old philosophy "KISS" (Keep it Simple Stoopid). During the 2003 - 2004 dance season, we instituted rounds at our regular dances for the first time in our history. We started with recorded rounds with a live cuer at a dance here and there. Now we try to have either Deb Deardorff or Linda Prosser at all of our dances. Sometimes we still have recorded rounds but we always do our best to make sure everybody leaves with a smile and wanting to come back again. |
